A lvl 2 Rogue with maxed move silent and hide skills can solo this quest even on elite quite well. Just make sure you keep an eye on the patroling prophets and don't hit any switches until they are far away and not looking. Patience is a virtue.

There's a total of 6 switches you must hit. The first is just outside the gate into room 1. The second is along the west wall between rooms 1&2 (hit this and back track twords room 3. In here is switch #3 on the wall. Go across room 5's bridges and down the ramp. There are 2 switches in the souther portion, one up the ladder, one just across on the wall. Cross the lower level of room 5, and find the last switch between the 2 small rooms just south of #6. This is the hardest one to hit and re-stealth. If you're spotted, just run to the gem and run back out.

If you want to get all the optional XP, have your party wait in the enterance room until the rogue returns with the gem, then just have yourself a nice slaughter-fest.

Has anyone else had the two gates towards the end shut on them right after opening them with the white lever?

If you are seen by any of the kobolds in the room they will shut the doors.
