I’m trying to clarify the rules so I can choose between ranged or melee weapons specialization for my rogue, and I’m not sure which would take better advantage of the rogue’s sneak attack. Is anyone familiar with the rules for sneak attacking in DDO? My experience is with NWN, and in that game, sneak attack damage would only apply if:
- The enemy was unaware of you, meaning either you were in stealth or invisible, or they were blind
- You were flanking them while they attacked someone else
It would work with ranged weapons if you were reasonably close, and as long as one of the conditions above was met, you could sneak attack as many times as you liked in one battle.
Are the rules the same for DDO?

My understanding is that it works exactly the same, If the enemy is unaware of your presense, or if they are engaged with another party memeber you will get your sneak. Diplomacy in ddo to try and get your target to attack another party member, and bluff can be used to get a sneak or too in as well if you are sucsessful. This should work with ranged weapons as well as long as you are within thirty feet.

It does work the exact same way. As long as you're hidden, or behind/Flanking an enemy already attacking someone else, you'll sneak attack automatically when your right click. Needless to say that I found it QUITE useful thus far.
Sneak attack + +1 Shortsword of Lesser reptilian bane = some 80 damage to Kobolds or Trogs and x2-3 for critical.
Add that to an invisibility spell ... Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Now if only we could pick pockets ...

whoa that freaked me out for a second, on the Q/A on the support page the last thing it says about sneak attack is "This feat must be actively used for it to have an affect." and I was thinking they turned it into an active feat... just about had a heart attack, but it is still pasive lol whew...
