First off welcome to the site!
well a few things are d12 hit points vs d 10 for a fighter, they get faster movement, and damage reduction, they get more skill points as well. But as to more of the nuanced fun to play type things I'll let someone who plays one answer that.

Aye welcome to the site.
As Ozone put you get more hp a d12 instead of a d10, you run liek a mofo, more skill points.
And well fighters are made to take dmg. I don't believe barbs wear heavy armor so they don't get as much ac. But where a fighter absorbs dmg, your the badass that deals it out.
And rage, oh god can't foret rage, get in a tight spot? Need to kill everything insight with one mighty swoop? Your the man for the job.
My next char will actully be a barb.

I'm not 100% about the figher's skills, but I know my barb is really fun to play. Sanny isn't the best bait in the world, but if there are no others she does well with tanking.
I love the Barbarian's Action Boost, Skill Athletecism, and Skill Interaction enchantments. I also have some pretty nice feats. And I like that I can solo the 1st quests up until i get out of the cove and can get into a nice team.
But I've never played a fighter (Sanny is my 1st character), and I don't know how much fun they maybe to play.
And by the by Barbs do get Heavy Armor Proficiency.

I had to take Heavy Armor proficiency to actually get it. And add the D12 hp to the Toughness feat and you got a guy that can take damage, have a kick ass ac, and deal a lot of damage out. I don't know if and when I get my barb more filled out I might post his stats and the such although it seems the enhancements on this site are not as detailed as I might enjoy. I might have to submit some.

Geo Wizard: Lvl 50 Earth/Kin With Speed Boost and Stamina yay. Not to mention kick butt holds. Including Volcanic Gases, hehe. And now with his own moronic Animated Stone. And Transference!!! New and improved, 3 lvls in one day, adding to his arsenal Fulcrum Shift..oh yea. Can't wait to get some time under his belt now. I can now hurl Boulders....omfg no he didn't :) I look so pimp in my newest power...its brown and bumpy all over..can you guess?... Thats right is Stone Armor and it is kick butt. Fissure rocks my world! Fifty soon. Fifty on 12-10-2005 at 12:35am after 400hrs of hard labor Wanna throw a special shout out to Illusion Mastor, CBail, Mudpuppy, Jupiter Sweets, Dark Hollow, Lethal Fury, Pan, Majin Tank, Lotus of Death, and all the others i know I am forgetting for their help. And also to all the gameampers here at gameamp whom without I would never have made it.

Another big thing to consider is that with the right feats and enhancements you can have over 400 hit points at level 10. You'd be able to take a good hit but you'd still have to maintain aggro with enough damage output to make those hit points useful.
Regardless, its something to think about.
