Do a little research (or simply remember) what monsters are found in that quest and what situations your group may have to deal with. Your spells and weapon selection must be prepared in accordance with the task at hand.
Do you have monsters with extremely high hit points and armor? If you don't have the proper bane you'll most likely want to bring along a weapon that decreases his AC or Strength. That way you can allow for other (more accurate or well-stocked) members of your group to effectively kill the monster.
Remember its not about what you can do, it's about what tools you bring to the group to make sure they do the best they can possibly do.
