I have played with the paladin spells for level one extensively. I have to say that my research has paid off.
Virtue, is an awesome spell, and it is an under utilized spell. I think at level 4, when a paladin first gets spell points and one first level spell, it is 12-14 temporary hit points. It is level based, and you receive more temporary hit points with levels.
It is a temporary hit point buff that gives you and/or allies hit points that stack with false life, aid, divine power etc.
At level 6, my paladin gives it out frequently, and buffs himself with Divine Favor and Virtue.
Just so you know, put it on the softies, and the cleric to make life easier. Use those spell points as best you can I say.
The three best spells IMO are Virtue, Divine Favor, and Cure Light Wounds. But, Virtue is a real winner that you should take as soon as you can.
