Whenever you are playing a quest, be sure to break everything breakable, detect every secret door, disable every trap, and if possible, try to kill as many vermin as possible.
In order to do so, the team needs to work, as a team ... as much as the fighter is tempted to run into battle weapons high and swinging, let the rouge disable the traps between the party and the enemies.
All these give you extra xp, and for those who are repeating lower level quests on higher levels, it may help to reduce the reduction in xp too.
