| Description |
UMD is the most useful skill in the game. It allows classes who do not have the healing wand abilities to use wands between battles when you get one of those clerics who are off in lala land. It also allows you to solo more efficiently as a tank.
Not only is it used for heal wands, it allows you to use every racial and alignment item in the game. I'm sure many people have gotten a racial smiting, banishing item that they cannot use. With a character with umd you can easily use that weapon.
Clerics are a rare commodity and it is difficult to get 2 in a group. A bard or rogue with a high charisma skill and umd focus can get their umd close to 35 (the raise dead scroll has an umd of 36). If you have a 35 umd you have a 100% chance of using a raise dead scroll. The best part of this is you only need 1 level of bard or rogue to get 13 ranks into umd.
Some of the common umd builds that can get 35umd are pure rogue, pure bard, bard/sorc 1/9, rogue/pally 2/8.
