We've all had it happen before, kill the bad guys, go to the chest, and lo and behold the uber weapon... Cursespewing, weakening, vorpal, holy burst bastard sword of disruption and greater oozebane... lawful neutral halfling barbarian only.
I don't know about you, but I know I don't have a character that could use it.
The other situation is you find a dagger of Greater spell Penetration XX and you have only tanks filling your character slots.
Your options with either of these is to:
A. create a character that can use said weapon
B. give it to a friend/guildmate
C. sell it to a pawn shop in which case that uberweapon that is worth 50k gp nets you 3k gp or the dagger that is worth a lot more is sold for 15 gp.
D. auction the thing.
If you post any item, you will get much more than you will ever get at the pawnshops/brokers, considering it sells (No one bids on vicious weapons, just sell them).
Those weapons of Spell Penetration/Greater Magnetism etc are worth a heck of a lot more than the 15 gp you'll get at the pawnshops. I just auctioned a Spell Penetration IV dagger and got over 50k gp.
Maximize the amount you get for your stuff, set the auction for 72 hours (gives people time to outbid each other giving you more gp).
